This Summer the Youth Zone has been running the ‘Get Stuck In’ programme at Meeting Places in Darwen Town Centre. The project which was one of only a few opportunities available for young people in the town provided 40 young people a day the chance to participate in 4 days a week positive activity and receive a healthy wholesome meal each day throughout the summer. Young people took part in activities including arts and crafts, games, challenges and music production.

Alongside onsite activities the youth zone also ran the following opportunities for young people in Darwen:

Detached work

This summer we have delivered detached work weekly in Darwen, providing the opportunity for young people to participate in positive social distancing activities. These were really popular and attended by 66 young people, some of which were coming back each time.

Time to Talk

Whilst delivering detached work in the community we also provided wellbeing calls and a safe space for any young person to come and speak to a dedicated youth worker if they needed someone to speak to during this vital time. 40 young people have received support through Time to Talk.

Young Leaders

This summer we re-launched our young leaders programme expanding into Darwen with the support of Darwen Rotary Club. Young people completed a three stage training programme, boundaries, safeguarding and understanding young people.  7 young leaders have been supporting the Get Stuck In programme and have all developed skills in team work, employability and planning.
