BYZ New Logo 2022 (2)

This summer a group of 7 young people from Mill Hill have come together with the support of Blackburn Youth Zone to paint a key message in their community.

The social action project was initiated when a BYZ Youth Ambassador spotted some upsetting graffiti on a wall along the canal in Mill Hill. The wall which was very unsightly had been sprayed with a range of discriminative and offensive words.

This summer as part of the get stuck in programme running across Blackburn with Darwen, 7 young people including Youth Ambassadors met twice a week for two weeks to transform the wall. The young people came up with the design context themselves and wanted to get a key message across that community spirit conquers hate and discrimination.

They used the opportunity to cover the discriminative words with a message of thanks and gratitude to all key workers throughout the pandemic. Members of the public came out from their homes to thank the young people and to let them know what a great job they had done.

Well done to everyone who was involved!
