Thwaites has become a Gold Patron of Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone in support of the development of Youth Zone Darwen, a new purpose-built facility set to open in early 2026.
The donation will contribute towards equipping and delivering Youth Zone Darwen, which is currently under construction following a £4 million investment from Blackburn with Darwen Council. Once completed, the building will be handed over to Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone to furnish, equip and manage.
Youth Zone Darwen will be a central hub for children and young people aged 0–25, open seven days a week and offering free entry, free membership and a free hot meal at every session. The facility will provide a safe, welcoming environment filled with activities and opportunities designed to support young people’s health and wellbeing, build aspirations and skills, and promote social integration. The new Youth Zone aims to address these challenges while offering an attractive alternative space that helps reduce antisocial behaviour and raise aspirations across the town.
Rick Bailey, Executive Chairman at Thwaites said:
“We are delighted to support Youth Zone Darwen. We recognise how important a facility like this is for the area, and we are proud to continue investing in the local community and in local young people, who are our next generation. Projects like Youth Zone Darwen play a vital role in helping young people thrive and reach their potential.”
Wayne Wild MBE, Chair of Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone, added: “We are incredibly grateful to Thwaites for their generous £25,000 donation. Support from committed local businesses is essential to making Youth Zone Darwen a reality, and this contribution will have a lasting impact on young people and the wider community.”
