Our young people’s development group took a recent jaunt across the North West to Bolton – to visit Bolton’s famous Lads & Girls’ Club – the model of which Blackburn Youth Zone is based on.
Linking up with London’s (fittingly titled) The Link – a similar project opening at the same time as Blackburn Youth Zone – the trip provided an invaluable opportunity for young people to share experiences and forge bonds. On the Saturday of the residential, young people from London, Bolton and Blackburn were given the opportunity to try their hand at many a team building and confidence boosting activity, including mountain biking, rock climbing and gorge walking – followed by a series of presentations about the respective youth zones. The Saturday concluded with a jolly over to Blackpool for the illuminations…!
Sunday offered the chance for the young people to don hard hats and visit the Blackburn Youth Zone site, hear all about what we’re building and see the various models. This was the first residential of its kind, and our young people’s development group are planning on meeting up with The Link during a future trip to London. To find out a little more about the residential, please listen to our interview with Leigh Culverwell, the Participation and Development Manager, who escorted the young people throughout the trip.
