Volunteering at Blackburn Youth Zone is a great way to support your community, enhance your skills and have a lot of fun along the way.
At Blackburn Youth Zone we are recruiting a committed core of volunteers to ensure we deliver a world-class service to Blackburn’s young people.
We have a number of volunteering opportunities available, offering a wide-range of experiences.
Volunteering at Blackburn Youth Zone is your chance to be at the heart of a project that will turn around the options and opportunities for Blackburn’s young people.
Find out a little bit more about how you can support your community:
Volunteer Youth Worker
Youth Work is an opportunity to create a fun and secure environment for young people to socialise and personally develop.
Volunteer Sports Leader
A chance to build young people’s confidence and teamwork skills, with sports including Football, Basketball, Netball, Badminton, Climbing and Outdoor Adventure.
Volunteer Arts Leader
With a stimulating and diverse arts programme, including music, dance, drama, design and crafts – Volunteer Arts Leaders will assist in facilitating art groups and workshops – nurturing the creative talents and skills of young people.
Mentoring provides young people with valuable one-to-one support to meet identified objectives. Mentors meet with their mentee for two hours per week and attend quarterly group activities/social events.
The reception team will be the first point of contact for young people accessing Blackburn Youth Zone. Receptionists will act as a friendly and informative presence to all visitors.
This is a fun opportunity to be part of a unique team that aims to provide young people with affordable, nutritious and exciting meals.
The training consists of a five session ‘Essential Skills’ Programme PLUS additional training in the areas you are interested in. The Training Programme covers the following themes:
- Introduction to Youth Zone and Youth Work
- Staying Safe
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
- Child Protection Training
- Plan and Deliver Youth Activities
- The Volunteer Handbook
Following attendance at the Essential Skills Programme, if you wish to become a Mentor you will be invited to attend the mentor induction training.
We ask all our volunteers to commit to one session per week for a minimum of six months (12 months for mentors). This allows us to effectively plan our work with young people and ensures they have the continuity and stability they deserve.
