The Big Kick kicked off in style this weekend, with glorious, sunny weather and a fantastic, vibrant atmosphere.
This Saturday saw the inaugural Big Kick charity football tournament take place at Blackburn Rovers FC’s hallowed grounds, Ewood Park.
Twelve teams competed, with 180 players playing in total. The Big Kick gave players the chance to sample the life of a Premiership footballer. Teams were given a professional coach, a bespoke football kit and full use of the facilities ordinarily reserved for the professionals.
With a variety of local businesses sponsoring teams, some of the companies entering teams included Blackburn Youth Zone patrons Crown Paints, Graham & Brown and Northcote.
The first game kicked off at 9am, with sixteen matches being played in total. Split into two groups, the group winner was The Cardboard Box Company, beating Graham & Brown by just one goal. The group two victors were none other than Blackburn Youth Zone’s very own team! The first ever Big Kick champions were The Cardboard Box Company following a thrilling final match.
The evening was capped off with a glamorous celebration courtesy of Northcote At The Rovers, with a delicious meal, silent auction, Blackburn Youth Zone dancers, a live musical performance, disco raffle and many more frivolities!
We would like to thank Big Kick sponsors Blackburn Chemicals, The Mall and Panza for helping to make The Big Kick a possibility – and of course, to thank Blackburn Rovers FC and Northcote At The Rovers, without whom the event could never have happened. Finally, thanks to The Lancashire Telegraph for the fantastic photographs found below…
