Supporters of Blackburn Youth Zone day to thanks them for their continuing support. Founder Andrew Graham speaks to the supporters.

On 7th December 2017 Blackburn Youth Zone invited guests from across the organisations Patron and Community Network to celebrate the generous support that has kept Blackburn Youth Zone open 365 days for the past 5 years for all young people across the borough.

Guests were welcomed to the Supporters’ Event by Blackburn Youth Zone Chairman, Rt Hon Jack Straw, who highlighted the importance of bringing the community together. Rt Hon Jack Straw spoke of how Blackburn Youth Zone is at the heart of creating community cohesion and is building a better future for the young people of the borough.

Hannah Allen – Chief Executive – spoke on the achievements of the Youth Zone which includes 10,000 registered memberships, 200,000 visits from the young people in the 5 years since opening. The Youth Zone currently delivers 19 targeted programmes including employability courses, diversity clubs and mentoring support. This powerful achievement has only been possible with support from partnerships and local organisations that create opportunities, invest and believe in the town’s young people.

Speakers also included; Claire Shore, Blackburn College, Jack Mellor Director of Personnel Checks, Sarah Thomas from Coal Clough Academy and founder of Blackburn Youth Zone MBE Andrew Graham.

The event marked the coming together of supporters under a shared passion and commitment to working together to secure a better future for young people in Blackburn with Darwen.

Towards the end of the event, organisations made individual pledges of ways they could support the work of Blackburn Youth Zone and help create a better future the young people of Blackburn.

All guests then celebrated at the end with mince pies, made by scholars at Blackburn College.
