Blackburn Youth Zone will be officially opened by HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex KG GCVO on Monday 6th February.
After years of planning and anticipation – Blackburn Youth Zone will be launching on 6th February. The Youth Zone will be unveiled to key stakeholders, local dignitories and partners at an invitation only event. Blackburn Youth Zone chairman Andrew Graham, Chief Executive of Graham & Brown, believes the Youth Zone is the most exciting project for a generation. “Not only will we have a world class facility – to inspire and raise the aspiration and education of our young people in Blackburn, Darwen and our neighbourhood – we also have a project that can bring all our community together to give something back. I have been amazed and humbled by the support we have received from so many different people…it has been truly fantastic!”
Visitors will be taken on tours of the building, including a presentation by young people about their involvement with the project from its very beginning and an insightful talk about the Youth Zone’s rewarding volunteering programme. Chief Executive Peter Little is excited to see the building finally launched. “After years in the planning we’re delighted to unveil the building to Blackburn and show our supporters the result of both their and our work. Beyond the launch, we’re looking forward to opening it up to Blackburn’s young people.”
One of the event’s highlights will be the performance by young people, incorporating dance, dramatics, rapping and a video installation. The event’s themes are, fittingly, ‘power’ and ‘energy’ and will be found in both the dazzling performance and in specially commissioned pieces of art, to be housed permanently in the Youth Zone. All of the artists involved in the performance will be delivering workshops and activities to young people at the Youth Zone beyond the launch. The performance will be ‘launched’ by HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex KG GCVO – who will be officially launching Blackburn Youth Zone in his capacity as Trustee for The Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Blackburn Youth Zone’s supporter’s launch will be followed a final fit out of the building and then a series of ‘soft openings’ in which young people from various schools and youth groups will be given the chance to trial the Youth Zone. We will then be open to all young people officially in April.
