Zone member Sophie used her talent and passion for rap to win the top prize of an ipad as part of the NHS Respect You Campaign.
Together with the Zone’s Arts Co-ordinator Ali Gadema, Sophie shared her personal story about her own family issues that have impacted upon her life.
The rap that she wrote and performed in the winning video is based on her own real life experiences. It is her hope that by getting her story across, this will help raise awareness amongst other young people who may be considering taking drugs or are already involved in taking drugs.
She said: ‘It was important to me to get my story across so other people are aware of what drugs can do.’
Praising her, Head of Youth Work Neil Sewell, added: “For Sophie to share her own deeply personal circumstances to help other young people in similar situations is testament to how she has developed as an individual through her music here at BYZ.”
