When Daniel Thwaites started brewing in Blackburn in 1807 he would never have guessed that his descendants would still be supplying Lancashire with great beers over 200 years later. Over the years the business has grown and today , as well as running a brewery and selling our beers in the town and further afield, we have a pub estate of about 350 pubs across the North of England, we run Shire Hotels and Spas, a group of 4 star regional full service hotels, and Thwaites Inns of Character, a small group of brilliant coaching inns. We employ 1,000 people across the business and many more are involved in one way or another.
Why we got involved?
“We continue to be a family controlled business and our relationship and partnership with the town stretches far into its past. Over the past 200 years Blackburn has changed from a thriving cotton town to an industrial hub. Today we recognise that Blackburn is continuing to change and we want to be part of that . Blackburn Youth Zone is a great way to create a safe environment for youngsters right at the heart of the town, not only to have somewhere to meet and have fun, but also to develop. We are passionate about not only our own people, but also our community and are so wholly committed to supporting a great scheme which will benefit and develop young people locally.”
