Blackburn Youth Zone’s central objective is to raise the aspirations of young people; and to help translate these aspirations into reality. The Youth Zone model is built on the principle of just being there for young people, which enables us to build strong relationships over many years, often with young people suffering from social and educational disengagement.

The money raised will go towards two very important projects at Blackburn Youth Zone:

Mentoring

The mentoring project works with young people aged 8-18 offering them one to one support and guidance from a volunteer mentor who helps them overcome issues they may be experiencing, achieve personal goals, access new social networks or develop self confidence.

This is a lifeline for many young people and can cost up to £1,500 to match and develop a mentee/mentor relationship which could last up to 18 months.

Employability Programme

BYZ are in an effective position to actively support those reaching 16+ who are not in employment, education or training to find work or training opportunities and to guide and influence younger members to avoid them becoming NEET.

Our employability programme will work with young people who are, or are at risk of becoming NEET, providing support to help them acquire the skills required by employers, which they have been unable to achieve through formal education and learning.

The project will directly benefit:

  • Young people aged 16-24 years old (minimum age range range 16-19, maximum age range 16-24).
  • Young people who are not in education, employment or training.
  • Young people ‘at risk’ of falling into NEET status or termed ‘hard to reach’.
  • Young people living in areas of deprivation surrounding the Youth Zones.

Thank you for helping us change the lives of young people in our community.
