Your child matters

Our Diversity team will ensure that with your consent, the right support will be given to your child or young person particularly in the first few sessions to help them take part, enjoy themselves and begin to build relationships with staff and their peers.

At Blackburn Youth Zone young people with an additional need or disability has access to regular activities and events as well as our own exclusive diversity session on a Sunday. Young people are supported at all of these sessions by our Diversity staff team and the wider staff team of the Youth Zone. We monitor member’s behaviour at all sessions to ensure that all children and young people are able to take part in activities so that they can be included and feel safe. Please see our policies for further details or speak to Laura Walker (Inclusion Manager).

The Diversity team monitors the on-going participation and progression of young people, who are encouraged to have a voice and an active role in shaping the future of the inclusive programme.

Next Steps

The First step is for your child to become a member of Blackburn Youth Zone, so that they can access the activities on offer.

Every young person with an additional need or disability is invited to meet with a member of our Diversity team. At the meeting a tour of the youth zone will be given and you will be able to meet some of our dedicated staff, ask any questions you want about what we do and what we offer. At this point we will need to know about any needs your child or young person has so that we can ensure that their time at Blackburn Youth Zone is as enjoyable, safe and rewarding as possible.

The last Sunday of every month we also hold a family fun day, in which Mums, Dads, Grandmas, Grandads, Carers and siblings can come along and join in the fun and get to know the staff team. If you or your son/daughter is interested in attending Diversity club or would like to come and have look around then please contact: Laura Walker, Inclusion Manager on 01254 292000.
