15 young people from Blackburn Youth Zone have taken part in a week long project focusing upon the criminal justice system.
As part of the Zone’s Easter half term provision, staff developed a workshop led programme that offered young people insight into the criminal justice system and how every action they make can have serious consequences.
The programme included meeting a local magistrate, a talk by Lancashire Police Young People’s engagement officer, a visit to Blackburn magistrates court and culminated in a trip to HMP Kirkham to meet with prison officers as well as prisoners to hear first hand how every action has consequences.
Carolyn Riley, Senior Club Manager at Blackburn Youth Zone, said: “The criminal justice awareness project is part of a series of developments within the Zone’s work that looks at targeting specific issues that affect young people. Through these sessions, members can then be empowered to make positive life choices with the support of Zone staff.”
