Blackburn Youth Zone’s junior girls football team took part in a 5-a-side girls tournament recently organised by Bolton Lads & Girls Club.
The tournament was BYZ girls football Team first ever taste of competitive action. In total BYZ entered two teams providing as many girls the opportunity to participate and have fun!
Young people who took part commented:
“What a wicked day! I love our kits and playing football. I use to think football was only for boys but I have found out girls are actually better than boys!”
“I started playing football only a few weeks ago. The coaches has really helped me improve my confidence. I also made lots of friends and definately gonna keep coming to practice.”
Both BYZ teams were fantastic throughout the group stages and merely missed out on the semi-finals by a few points.
Sport Coordinator Ishy Issat said: “This was the team’s first ever competitive action and all the girls can be very proud of their efforts. The teams who is made up of girls who have never played football before or have limited experience have been attending Blackburn Youth Zones Football Academy on a Saturday morning. Over the past few months we have had alot of fun and intense sessions developing the girls basic footballing skills and knowledge.
“I am extremely proud of all our girls who took part in the competition. Fantastic effort, commitment and passion! They have worked incredibly hard over the past few weeks developing their skills and confidence.This is a start of a long journey for BYZ football programme. We currently have 80 juniors attending the Football Academy and in the coming months we will have pathways for their development and continued participation.”
The all girls sessions are every Saturday from 10:30am – 11:30am. A second session is in the pipeline on Wednesdays to accommodate demand. All Girls WELCOME!
