After counting, and recounting twice more, Sarah Johns, Head of Finance and Support Services, confirmed the Youth Zone signed up its 1,000th member on Saturday afternoon – two days earlier than expected!

The newest member of the Senior Club, Aliraza Tariq, attends Pleckgate High School and his uncle, Farooq Iangrial, has also applied to become a volunteer at Blackburn Youth Zone.

Sarah Johns says: “We’re thrilled to have reached the 1,000 members mark so quickly, it really highlights what a success Blackburn Youth Zone has been so far and we hope that success continues to grow and grow.

“The Youth Zone has, and is, providing opportunities to not only the youth of the town, but also their families – Aliraza and Farooq are a great example of this and we’re so proud of the positive impact the Youth Zone is having on Blackburn and the surrounding area.”
