A year on…

HRH Earl Wessex

Today, 6th February 2013, marks one year since the Zone had its Royal Opening attended by HRH the Earl of Wessex.

In that time, the Zone has grown and we now welcome nearly 3,000 members each week!

We’ve come so far, but there is a long way for us to go together with our young people, in line with one of our value statements: “starting where young people are, going where young people take us…”

It’s something that Peter Little Zone Chief Executive is very proud of, as he told OnSide in their Annual Review: “It’s been an immense year during which we’ve changed from a building site to an inspiring facility filled with young people, manned by enthusiastic staff and volunteers. We were delighted to be joined by HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex to officially launch the Youth Zone last February. And Alan Shearer showed his support by christening our rooftop kickpitch with a display of skills that had onlookers breaking into impromptu chants.Since we opened our doors, the members just seem to keep coming and coming! I’m extremely proud of everything we’ve achieved but more so of the way the young people have begun to blossom since becoming a part of the Zone.”

Exciting things are in the pipeline for 2013/14, but in the meantime, why not check out the photos from the Royal Opening by clicking here.
